What to submit
Capital One processes estate claims primarily by mail or fax:
- Certified death certificate
- A copy of your government-issued photo ID
- Letters testamentary or letters of administration
- Account numbers
When you call, ask for the current mailing address and fax number. These can change; always confirm when you call rather than using an address from an old document.
What to expect
- Capital One 360 savings and checking accounts: Frozen upon notification, released to executor with proper documentation.
- Joint accounts: Transfer to surviving owner.
- POD accounts: Beneficiary claims with death certificate and ID.
Capital One credit card balances are the estate's responsibility, not yours personally, unless you were a joint account holder.

If continuing payments on a vehicle you're keeping: 1-800-946-0332. Contact them to update the account to your name.
Timeline
